Sunday 7th April 2019 – Peter and Eric Lead. Message – Roger Hunton

Well, this morning certainly got off to a great start with the cat being set amongst the proverbial pigeons! Whilst we were setting up for the service, the “man from the council” who allow us to use the hall, arrived and explained that due to a local festival the road was being closed off at 11:30 am and no cars would be allowed on the road outside the church! After a bit of negotiation to no avail, we had to make some quick changes and one of our walking wounded (Ann) unfortunately had to be taken home so that we would not have to bring any cars up the road. Anyway, we got through the service without any sound equipment so we could pack away quickly and let them have the hall by 12.30. All that said, the service was great. We were missing in numbers due to a few people being back in the UK for a short period. Roger’s message was poignant, emotional and really hit the mark as he continued with his theme of “Fighting Giants.” He told us the story of David and Goliath in his best Yorkshire speak making a few basketball analogies to make his points, although I think “slam dunk” was lost on most of the congregation! Some great songs this week although we had to lose one due to the tight time.

Looking forward to next week’s message Roger….

Mandy Churcher

March saw the beginning of our series of visiting preachers coming from the UK, the first being a return of Rev. Mandy Churcher from Malmesbury Abbey. Mandy is an Associate Minister and the minister for older people at Malmesbury Abbey in Wiltshire. Roger and Sue Hunton whose home church is also Malmesbury Avenue arrived from the UK two weeks ago and led the service. Roger and Sue will be leading and preaching for many months ahead along with other visiting preachers. David and Irene Jones return to us to preach and deliver Bible study from 21 April for 4 weeks, and Philip and Val Laver returning on 9 June for 4 weeks.

Next week, Roger and Sue Hunton lead and deliver the message. The message today came from Peter Adams. It was called “What? Who? Me?” and challenged some of our thinking and actions in showing and demonstrating our faith.
